Waihola
Gold miners were an important part of Lake Waihola's history.
They used Lake Waihola to shorten the path to Gabriel 's Gully in Lawrence. They used Lake Waihola as a pathway to Gabriel's Gully in Lawrence , which at the time was a popular place for gold mining. Without the gold miners , the town may be much smaller and a lot less known.
Waihola to me is a quiet , special town that means a lot to my family and I. I love it because it is small , warm , and rather spectacular on a nice day. I know for sure it means a lot to my family because Dad and his family learnt to water ski and drive a boat there and so did my brother and I . I think it's funny on windy days when I'm at my Aunty and Uncle's house looking out of the window at the view. The mud at the bottom of the lake gets swished around to the top and the water goes brown (it looks revolting). Even then I like it because , no other lake I've EVER known of does that ! I love how it's so small and everything is so close together. The dairy is so expensive and the sandwiches are stale but they have the bestbacon nachos ever. I would not trade Waihola for all the beautiful 'lake Wanakas' in the world. Because that would mean giving up all the great memories that I have and I couldn't do that.
